What is Phishing Scam?
Phishing is a type of online scam that targets
consumers by sending them an e-mail that appears to be from a well-known source –
an internet service provider, a bank, or a mortgage company, for example. It
asks the consumer to provide personal identifying information.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check team has
exposed a phishing scam targeting customers of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB).
Fraudsters have been sending alarming messages, falsely
claiming that accounts will be blocked unless PAN card details are updated.
These messages contain a suspicious link, leading users directly to scammers.
The PIB Fact Check team has confirmed that India Post has
not sent out any such messages, urging the public to remain cautious and not
engage with the fraudulent claims. Authorities have warned citizens to be
vigilant, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and refrain from sharing personal
details.
