Java interview questions and answers
Describe what happens when an object is created in Java?
Several things happen in a particular order to ensure the object is constructed properly:
1. Memory is allocated from heap to hold all instance variables and implementation-specific data of the object and its superclasses. Implementation-specific data includes pointers to class and method data.
2. The instance variables of the objects are initialized to their default values.
3. The constructor for the most derived class is invoked. The first thing a constructor does is call the constructor for its uppercase. This process continues until the constructor for java.lang.Object is called, as java.lang.Object is the base class for all objects in java.
4. Before the body of the constructor is executed, all instance variable initializers and initialization blocks are executed. Then the body of the constructor is executed. Thus, the constructor for the base class completes first and constructor for the most derived class completes last.
In Java, you can create a String object as below : String str = "abc"; & String str = new String("abc"); Why cant a button object be created as : Button bt = "abc"? Why is it compulsory to create a button object as: Button bt = new Button("abc"); Why this is not compulsory in String’s case?
Button bt1= "abc"; It is because "abc" is a literal string (something slightly different than a String object, by-the-way) and bt1 is a Button object. That simple. The only object in Java that can be assigned a literal String is java.lang.String. 2. Modularity: each object forms a separate entity whose internal workings are decoupled from other parts of the system;
3. Modifiability: it is easy to make minor changes in the data representation or the procedures in an OO program. Changes inside a class do not affect any other part of a program, since the only public interface that the external world has to a class is through the use of methods;
4. Extensibility: adding new features or responding to changing operating environments can be solved by introducing a few new objects and modifying some existing ones;
5. Maintainability: objects can be maintained separately, making locating and fixing problems easier;
6. Re-usability: objects can be reused in different programs

You can make up your mind whether it’s really a pointer or not. In any event, there’s no pointer arithmetic. There are no destructors in Java. (automatic garbage collection), Java does not support conditional compile (#ifdef/#ifndef type). Thread support is built into java but not in C++. Java does not support default arguments. There’s no scope resolution operator :: in Java. Java uses the dot for everything, but can get away with it since you can define elements only within a class. Even the method definitions must always occur within a class, so there is no need for scope resolution there either. There’s no "goto " statement in Java. Java doesn’t provide multiple inheritance (MI), at least not in the same sense that C++ does. Exception handling in Java is different because there are no destructors. Java has method overloading, but no operator overloading. The String class does use the + and += operators to concatenate strings and String expressions use automatic type conversion, but that’s a special built-in case. Emoluments:Basic pay in time scale of Rs.7200 - 19300 plus DA, HRA, CCA etc as per Bipartite settlement amended from time to time (pay scales are due for upward revision)
Eligibility criteria
Age (as on 01.01.2011): Minimum age 18 years, maximum age 28 years (relaxation of age for reserved candidates as per govt guidelines)
Relaxation in upper age; SC/ST candidates by 5 years; OBC by 3 years; PwD by 10 years; Ex-serviceman 3 years in addition to the usual period of service in the Defence forces subject to a maximum age of 50 years; widows, divorced women and women judicially separated from their husbands who have not re-married by 9 years i.e. subject to a maximum age of 35 years for General category candidates, 38 years for OBC candidates and 40 years for SC/ST candidates; all persons who have ordinarily been domiciled in Kashmir Division of J&K state during 01.01.1980 and 31.12.1989 by 5 years; the children/family members of those who died in the 1984 riots by 5 years
Educational qualifications (as on 01.01.2011): A pass with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD/Ex-servicemen) in HSC of 10+2 (10+2+3) pattern/11th standard of (11+1+3) pattern or Intermediate/Pre-university or any equivalent examination/diploma in banking recognized by central/state govt or UT admn; or degree in any discipline from a recognized University; or any equivalent qualification recognized by central govt
For Ex-servicemen (who do not possess the above) a pass in service (departmental) examination which is recognized as equivalent to civil examination not below the rank of higher secondary school examination
All educational qualifications should be from recognized university/central/state/UT administration
Should be able to write and speak English fluently
Knowledge of local/state language for which he desires to apply, will be an added qualification
Computer literacy-should possess a certificate in computer literacy
Probation period:Minimum period of 6 months. Before the probation period comes to an end, the performance of the newly recruited clerical staff will be evaluated and the probation period of those staff whose performance fails to meet Bank’s expectation, may be extended

Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject of Nepal or (iii) subject of Bhutan or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the govt of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination/ interview conducted by the Bank but on final selection the offer of appointment may be given only after the govt of India has issued the necessary eligibility certificate to him/her
Selection procedure: Selection will be on the basis of performance in written test and Interview. Details of written test and Interview are as under
Written test: All eligible candidates will be called for a written test which will be of objective type. The objective test consists of (i) Reasoning ability (ii) Numerical ability (iii) Clerical Aptitude (iv) English (v) Socio-Economic, Banking Awareness (vi) Computer Awareness. There will be negative marks for the wrong answers in the objective test. Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests
Candidates shall have the option to answer the test papers either in English or Hindi
Depending upon the number of vacancies, only those candidates who rank sufficiently high in the written test will be called for Interview
Final selection will be on the basis of the ranking accorded after adding the marks obtained in the written test and Interview
Other detailed information regarding the written examination will be given in the Acquaint Yourself booklet which will be made available to the candidate along with the call-letter
The Bank reserves the right, if required to hold a second stage of written test on the basis of order of merit in the written examination of first stage, as referred above. Pre-examination training (for SC/ST/PwD/minority community candidates only): It is proposed to impart pre-examination training to a limited number of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD/minority communities at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai centres at the discretion of the Bank. An eligible candidate who wishes to avail of pre-examination training should fill in the relevant column in the online application. All expenses regarding traveling, boarding, lodging etc will be borne by the candidate for attending the pre-examination training programme at the concerned centres
Call letters for the written examination: The date of the written test is tentatively fixed as 17th April, 2011. However, it will be intimated in the call letter along with the centre/venue for the examination, well in advance of the date of the written examination. Any change in date of written test shall be intimated on Bank’s website
All eligible candidates will be issued call-letters at the correspondence address given by them in their online application which will be sent by post and also informed by email. Pre-examination training (for SC/ST/PwD/minority community candidates only): It is proposed to impart pre-examination training to a limited number of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD/minority communities at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai centres at the discretion of the Bank. An eligible candidate who wishes to avail of pre-examination training should fill in the relevant column in the online application. All expenses regarding traveling, boarding, lodging etc will be borne by the candidate for attending the pre-examination training programme at the concerned centres
Call letters for the written examination: The date of the written test is tentatively fixed as 17th April, 2011. However, it will be intimated in the call letter along with the centre/venue for the examination, well in advance of the date of the written examination. Any change in date of written test shall be intimated on Bank’s website
All eligible candidates will be issued call-letters at the correspondence address given by them in their online application which will be sent by post and also informed by email. Candidates who do not receive call-letter should contact in person at the address for the respective centres of Bank's website furnishing his/her name, address, registration number and production of fee payment challan. Nationality/citizenship: A candidate must be either (i) a citizen of India or (ii) a subject of Nepal or (iii) subject of Bhutan or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Selection procedure
Selection procedure: Selection will be on the basis of performance in written test and interview. The details of written test and interview are as under
Written Test: Eligible candidates will be required to appear for written test comprising objective test on (i) reasoning (ii) quantitative aptitude (iii) general socio economic and banking awareness (iv) English language (v) marketing aptitude

Selection procedure
Selection procedure: Selection will be on the basis of performance in written test and interview. The details of written test and interview are as under

For the under-graduate (LL.B) programme - To be eligible to appear for CLAT-2011, a candidate should have passed his/her Higher Secondary School/Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC and persons with Disability)*. Age of candidate should not be more than 20 years in case of General/OBC candidates (22 years in case of SC/ST and persons with Disability)* as on 1st July, 2011.
POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMME
The CLAT-2011 for the post-graduate programme (LL.M) will be applicable for admission to NLSIU, NALSAR, NLIU, WBNUJS, HNLU, GNLU, RMLNLU and RGNUL only. For NLU, Jodhpur and Cochin candidates are required to apply separately to that University.

CBSE makes multiple choice questions (MCQs) mandatory for class IX Exams from 2011
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made multiple choice questions (MCQ’s) mandatory for all subjects for students of class nine appearing for exams in 2011-12, reports the DNA, Check out CBSE CCE
With over 10,000 affiliated schools in the country, the board in a recent circular stated that while MCQs were limited to science till last year, this year they have been extended to all subjects like social studies, maths etc.
In 2009, the board had taken up an initiative to generate a sizeable bank of questions in each subject. Teachers had to submit the MCQs to the board online and the board with its experts evaluated them.
MCQs test the concept of students and require to be framed in a certain way. But the multiple choices given to a question need to be relatively ambiguous so as to increase the difficulty level.
