Reading, Writing, Listening, speaking Tips:


READING 

Study Group Reading Tips:

Practice rewriting what you read and hear.


Listen to news or a speech. Then, paraphrase by saying the same thing differently to someone.


Ask for an evaluation.

Remember, paraphrasing is tested in the reading, writing and speaking sections.


WRITING

"Let’s get to the finer points."

Celia has trouble summarizing thoughts for an essay, and gets TOEFL® test writing tips from the study group.


Study Group Writing Tips:


First, make an outline. Then use your outline to write the summary.

LISTENING

Watching TV is a good way to hear English in real conversations.


Listen to NPR.com and recorded speeches to improve your English.


Listen to music CDs and write the lyrics.


Watch movies and stop at each scene to discuss what the characters are saying.


SPEAKING

Practice speaking English with a friend often. 


Record yourself speaking English out loud.
